$2,000 Film Commission Scholarship and Awards Program for film students now open for Monterey County applicants

(Nov. 8, 2024 – Monterey County)  Applications are now being accepted for the Monterey County Film Commission’s Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Film Student Scholarship Awards program. The deadline to apply is Nov. 30, 2024.

This year, the program plans to award students up to $2,000 in scholarship awards. For eligibility details and application forms go to https://FilmMonterey.org/scholarships/.

The scholarship program was created to provide incentive and financial aid to students of film and beginning filmmakers who live in Monterey County, or who are currently enrolled in a community college or university in the county. The fund was established as a permanent endowment with the Community Foundation for Monterey County, and is designed to help a college student work towards a career in film.

Funding has been supported by the Craig and Paula Tigerman family, Dino Cocalis, Honest Engine Films, Carmel Sunset Rotary, the Monterey International Pop Festival Foundation, and other local businesses and individuals.

The 2024 prize winners will be announced by Dec. 15.  Last year, two scholarships went to Cinematic Arts and Technology majors at California State University, Monterey Bay.  The winner of the $2,000 scholarship was Jasmyn Ramirez, and Spencer Garcia as runner-up was awarded $750.
