Thriller about a detective who falls for the woman he stalks; Oscar nominee for art direction; Scenes filmed at Carmel beach and in the Environs of San Juan Bautista, including a shot of a car on Highway 101 between Prundale and San Juan Bautista traveling in the wrong direction (North instead of South) to take advantage of better scenery; When Hitchcock filmed at the Mission in San Juan Bautista, the tower, was long gone; They built the tower for Paramount Studios and through the film editor’s art the tower ended up on the top of the Mission for the movie; One of the first 25 U.S. films put on the National Film Registry as “Culturally, Historically or Aesthetically significant under the National Film Reservation Act.”

A romantic drama based on Henry Kitchell Webster’s novel, “A King of Khaki;” Scenes filmed at the Pebble Beach Golf Course (turned into a village street in the semitropics), Carmel Beach, and elsewhere on the Monterey Peninsula; Lockwood, a silent screen lover and early version of Rudolph Valentino, spent about three weeks here for the filming in June 1918; Lockwood died later that year; This was Lockwood’s last film.
