Monterey County Film Commission’s Art at the Airport film history exhibit to “wrap” in February
(Monterey, CA – Jan. 6, 2026) The popular display highlighting Monterey County’s connections to on-location filming here is coming to an end in mid-February, when as they say in the film business, “It’s a wrap.”
Over the past year, thousands of travelers passing through the airport’s mezzanine have been enjoying the “Lights, Camera, Monterey County” exhibit, and discovering the region’s rich film legacy. Iconic productions, landscapes, celebrities, as well as the locations that have made Monterey County a sought-after film destination for decades are highlighted. On display are movie memorabilia, film location maps, and even a New York Emmy statuette for Best Sports Documentary “The Roots of Lacross,” won by Monterey’s Honest Engine Films in 2021.
The installation is part of the Monterey Regional Airport’s Art at the Airport program. The Monterey County Film Commission’s board of directors worked with Chris Van Oosten, lead designer of the exhibit, and Chris Morello and the Monterey Regional Airport staff, to create the successful exhibit.
“It was a delight to help bring this vision to life and I thank the airport for providing a platform to showcase the county’s cinematic history,” said Van Oosten. “I hope the community and other visitors will catch the display before February when it will come to an end.”
The Monterey County Film Commission works to attract and assist various types of film productions to the county, for the positive economic boost they bring to local communities, crew and businesses. An average of $4 million is spent annually by film productions here.
