Monterey Bay “Voices” co-founder featured in national PBS documentary

The “Voices” co-founder Julie Reynolds will be featured in “Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink,” a documentary that premieres nationwide on PBS and the PBS app starting October 1.The film documents the fight of Julie and a nationwide team of journalists who, backed by their union, stood up to resist the devastation wrought by the investment firm Alden Global Capital on local newspapers.

Directed by filmmaker Rick Goldsmith and inspired by legendary journalist Bill Moyers, the documentary investigates how hedge funds are dismantling local journalism and what’s at stake for democracy when local watchdogs disappear.

Julie’s investigative work on Alden Global Capital’s impact on Bay Area newspapers — including the Monterey Herald, Santa Cruz Sentinel, and Mercury News — is part of this examination of threats to American journalism.
