$2,000 Film Student Scholarship now open for Monterey County applicants
(Monterey, CA – Oct. 10, 2025) — Applications are now being accepted for the Monterey County Film Commission’s Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Film Student Scholarship Awards program. The deadline to apply is November 10, 2025 at 5 p.m.
This year the program plans to awards students up to $2,000 in scholarship funds. For eligibility details and to apply on-line go to https://FilmMonterey.org/scholarships/.
The scholarship program was created to provide incentive and financial aid to students of film and beginning filmmakers who live in Monterey County, or who are currently enrolled in a community college or university in the county. The fund was established as a permanent endowment with the Community Foundation for Monterey County, and is designed to help a college student work towards a film career.
Funding has been supported by the Craig and Paula Tigerman family, Jeryl and Ron Abelmann, Dino Cocalis, Honest Engine Films, Annee Martin, and other local businesses and individuals. Additional donations are welcome.
The 2025 prize winner will be announced by Dec.8. Last year’s $2,000 scholarship was presented to Olivia Rovid, a Cinematic Arts and Technology major at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB). A $500 honorary award went to Ashton Brigati, also a CSUMB film student.
“We are excited to offer film student scholarships to give assistance and propel the education of our future filmmakers here in Monterey County,” said Garland Thompson, scholarship committee chair and president of the Monterey County Film Commission’s board of directors.
