“Kicking It,” a Sundance Film Festival selection, follows a half-dozen homeless men from around the globe as they prepare for a unique soccer Homeless World Cup, which was established to give people a chance to better their lives through sports. The film is narrated by actor Colin Farrell.

In the summer of 2006, while the soccer world’s attention was focused on Germany, thousands of players around the globe were training hard and competing to be part of another world cup--the Homeless World Cup. More than 500 homeless players from 48 nations would ultimately be selected to represent their country in Cape Town, South Africa—coming from countries from war-torn Afghanistan, the slums of Kenya, the drug rehab clinics of Dublin, Ireland, and the streets of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Werner will provide insights on the making of “Kicking It” and the challenges of filming internationally. He has previously helped direct and edit the feature-length documentary “Second Chance Season,” which looked at restorative justice and high school basketball. He also co-directed and edited “Mario’s Story,” which won an Audience Award at the Los Angeles Film Festival. He edited “Year of the Yao,” and the DGA and Peabody Award-winning, “The Smith Family,” which documented a Mormon woman’s courage while facing her husband’s battle with AIDS. He also directed HBO’s “The Godfather Family” and “Bloodlines.”
